What Is Dengue?

The virus that causes Dengue infects humans when infected mosquitoes bite them. Usual dengue symptoms are flu-like, but they can deteriorate into severe Dengue (dengue hemorrhagic fever), a condition that can be fatal. Due to the effects of climate change, increased urbanization, and population growth, Dengue spreads quickly.

Dengue plagues Nepal. The week beginning in August and continuing through October saw an increase in instances across the nation. There is no recognized causal serotype. In terms of the annual total of cases reported across the country, this is the greatest dengue outbreak Nepal has ever experienced.

Signs and Symptoms of Dengue

After a mosquito bite, dengue fever symptoms can show up four to ten days later and linger for 3 to 14 days. After their first symptoms start to fade, about 1 in 20 dengue patients will develop severe Dengue. The flu or another viral infection may sometimes present with similar mild symptoms. Less severe instances in older children and adults are more common in younger children and individuals who have never had the virus previously. But significant issues can arise.

Symptoms that can appear during Dengue are as follows:

  1. suddenly having a high fever
  2. severe headaches
  3. painful joints and muscles
  4. Fatigue
  5. Nausea
  6. Vomiting
  7. two to five days following the commencement of a fever, skin rash
  8. minor bleeding (such as a nosebleed, bleeding gums, or easy bruising)

Foods to eat and avoid during Dengue

The dengue virus can be fought in a variety of methods. Increasing the patient's immunity is first and foremost. Giving the patient food rich in vitamins and other nutrients will help them recover quickly.

Here is few food you can have during dengue:

  1. Papaya Leaves
  2. Pomegranates
  3. Coconut Water
  4. Turmeric
  5. Fenugreek
  6. Orange
  7. Herbal Tea
  8. Vegetable Juice
  9. Broccoli
  10. Spinach

The signs and symptoms of dengue fever can range from a high fever to flu-like symptoms, severe bleeding, a sharp drop in blood pressure, and even death.

People must avoid the foods on the following list if they experience these symptoms.

  1. Non-vegetarian Foods
  2. Oily and Fried food
  3. Spicy food
  4. Caffeinated beverages

There are no particular medications for the treatment of dengue, but you must take paracetamol and ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) continuously to prevent dehydration and fever. You may remember that Sajilo meds can deliver your medicines quickly and easily to your door.

Dengue in Nepal

As it has been deemed a national concern, dengue is not a recent occurrence in Nepal. The metropolitan city government recently labelled the area red zones and began a unique campaign to control it after all 29 wards of Lalitpur reported dengue during the past several weeks.
